If I bring a photo into Iridient from Finder, do a minor temp adjustment, choose the RAW process type and sharpening only, I'll likely want to do further editing in another application. However, Iridient Developer (and some other RAW processors too) can simply use that intermediate image as a "pointer' to the original RAW image and then load the original RAW for processing. Yes, when you use the external editor interface of Lightroom it does create an intermediate, processed image (TIFF or JPEG, etc) and if your intention is to reprocess from the RAF you definitely do not want to work with that intermediate file.
